ARIZONA
Navajo Native American Reservation
Spend a week serving a local church. We will help run a Vacation Bible School for the children, offer adult Bible studies and participate in work projects
INFORMATION
Transportation: We will spend roughly 3000 miles driving to and from Arizona.
Cost: $650
Room and Board: We will stay in churches and a hotel while traveling. On the reservation we will sleep at Mesa View Baptist Church. All food will be provided for you, whether at fast food restaurants while traveling or at the church in Arizona.
Ministry: We will work closely with the local church and their pastor. We plan to operate a Vacation Bible School, youth and adult Bible studies, do work projects, and participate in church services.
The People: We will work primarily with Navajo Native Americans. They live in government built housing or huts that they built themselves. Some children come from homes with no running water or electricity. Alcohol and drugs play a prominent role in the lives of the people. Children have very little opportunity to be a part of any organized activity during the summer. Youth struggle with involvement in local gang activity. The people are spiritual, but trapped in fear by their tribal beliefs.
